How a Wall Bed Works

Opening a wall bed is much easier than you might expect. The bed hinges neatly inside its wall-mounted cabinet, while hydraulic pistons rated at 1400 newtons on each side help take the weight as you raise and lower it. The result is a smooth, controlled movement that makes the bed easy to operate with just one hand.

Underneath, a sturdy aluminium frame supports up to 600 lb, while flexible wooden slats create a supportive base for your mattress. As the bed opens, a self-levelling leg moves into place for extra stability, then tucks neatly away when you close it again. A bumper keeps the front panel securely in place when everything is folded away.

Wall Bed vs Murphy Beds

Both mean the same thing. A wall bed or Murphy bed is a full-size bed that stores upright or sideways against a wall, usually inside a cabinet, and lowers when you need it. By day you have a clear floor, a tidy cabinet wall or a home office. By night you have a proper mattress. Airbnb hosts love them for the same reason.

Vertical or Horizontal Fold

A vertical wall bed stands on its end against the wall, so it needs ceiling height to swing up. A horizontal wall bed folds sideways. That makes horizontal the perfect option for low ceilings, and it fits under windows and clears ceiling fans and pendant lights. The trade-off is wall width, because the long side runs along the wall. Several of our wall beds come in both folds. Check your ceiling height first, because it decides which fold fits.

Wall Beds with Desks, Sofas and Storage

Choose a Murphy bed with a desk and the room works as an office by day. Pair the bed with a convertible wardrobe, a bookcase, a folding table or a sofa, and the whole wall becomes one piece of furniture. We send our own assembly team to Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Perth and Canberra.

European-Made Mechanisms and Warranty

All Troya wall beds are made in Europe from quality European materials, and that includes the mechanism doing the lifting. Hydraulic pistons rated at 1400 newtons on each side carry the weight.

The bed has a 5-year warranty, and the pistons have a lifetime warranty. European manufacturing and that guarantee go together, because a bed that moves every day needs a mechanism built for it.

Installation and What Your Wall Needs

A wall bed has to be fixed to the wall. The brackets must go into the structural part of it, such as a timber stud, metal stud, brick or concrete. Our assembly team puts the bed together and fixes it to the wall. We can travel beyond our metro assembly areas when scheduling allows, with travel costs covered by you. If you’d rather install it yourself, send us photos of the finished bed so we can check the fixings.
